Meet Jen

Jen’s path of exploring the human condition and ways of being began with undergraduate studies in psychology and criminology at the University of Melbourne. The medical paradigm predominant in psychology then however, wasn’t properly congruent with her own experiences and those of the psychosocial difficulties of people around her. She then veered into art and meditation practices in which she found greater resonance for self-expression and wellbeing.

For over 20 years she has worked with both adults and children in various community and school settings. Her experiences in family and children’s services research, art teaching, community projects and art therapy facilitation provided a broad and deep appreciation for human expression, connection and need.

Facilitating art therapy in a clinic for marginalised people in Melbourne’s CBD impelled Jen to seek best practice in addressing psychosocial challenges and she was awarded a scholarship from the Department of Health & Human Services to complete a Masters in Counselling and Psychotherapy. She was delighted to learn of the expansive developments in Humanistic psychosocial theories and effective evidence-based practice since her undergraduate days and has since been committed to enhancing the wellbeing of others in therapeutic alliance.

Jen has a particular interest in working with children because she believes that if needs and difficulties are addressed early, there is opportunity for real and lasting enhancement and resilience throughout one’s life. Moreover, witnessing the strengths of children and their capacity for joy and wonder despite their difficulties is awesome!

Jen is a warm and non-judgemental therapist who establishes trust and rapport with children and their caregivers to enable exploration of self, difficult experience and move toward positive changes.
